Emma S.

Emma graduated with Honors from The College of the Holy Cross in 2016, with a B.A. in Biology.

Emma has over 7 years of experience working with learners of varying age and ability. While in college, she worked as a TA for courses including Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. After college, Emma joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, where she worked in a job-training program for adults with disabilities. Here, Emma’s passion for serving those with diverse needs grew, and informed her decision to spend more time in the educational community. In 2017, Emma moved back to the east coast and worked for a year as an assistant teacher at Cotting School in Lexington, MA, which provides education and special services for children with complex medical and academic needs. In the last three years, Emma has taken on the role as mentor for college students seeking to enter medical school. Her other mentoring/tutoring experiences include chemistry, biology, algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, college admissions, and executive function.

Emma feels passionately about meeting students where they are, to achieve their best academic potential. She enjoys the process of getting to know students and feeding their strengths and interests, while supporting their growth and improvement. One of her favorite things about teaching is when she can nurture the spark of a student’s love of science or reading. Her students would describe her teaching style as energetic, compassionate, passionate, and creative.

Emma is currently in her third year as a medical school at Georgetown University. When she isn’t busy with school, Emma loves spending time with her cats, baking, and of course, reading!
