Eric W.

Eric earned his BA from Boston University with a triple major in Mathematics, Philosophy, and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. He is a fourth-year medical student at Stony Brook University, pursuing a joint MD/MA degree in Bioethics.

Critical thinking and self-reflection underlie Eric’s educational approach. For over a decade, he has taught students to solve problems, make sound decisions, and discover their strengths.

Eric’s skill set is broad, with test prep as a mainstay. With his help, dozens have excelled at standardized exams across different education levels. These include the SSAT, ISEE, SAT, ACT, and the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). He also offers subject tutoring in Math, Science, and Writing. What makes Eric most excited about teaching, however, is building strong relationships with his students and their families. To that end, he has worked extensively as an academic coach. In that role, he guides those with ADHD and learning disabilities to build skills, such as planning, that are critical to navigating the academic environment.

His students are as diverse as his skill set. Among them are boarding-school students, recent immigrants, and first-generation college students from low-income families.

Eric brings experiences from other fields to his tutoring — planning and improvisation from medical research, exceptional listening skills from working at a pediatrics clinic, and a commitment to simple and sensible solutions from his service work. All of these experiences form a multifaceted approach that has enabled him to guide his students through the most formative years of their lives.

Outside of school and work, Eric loves to cook and read. He is also a lifelong classical pianist and a novice runner. He cares for a 9-year old corgi and aims to bring him on a dog-focused camping trip to a national park in the near future.
