Maureen C.

Maureen is a senior at Harvard College studying English. In her college years, Maureen has focused on literature and creative writing, and she enjoys working with students to discover their own voices and exploring the subject matters that they care about most in order to fill those voices with conviction.

Having grown up with ADHD and struggled in school, Maureen understands the unique difficulties that learning differences can pose to students, but she has also experienced the joy of discovering the unique powers that these learning differences possess in helping us think outside of the box and find creativity in problem-solving. She believes in leveraging the power of a structured routine to allow the strengths of ADHD (hyperfocus, creativity, curiosity, and abundance of energy) to flourish. She thinks of academic organization like a creative writing prompt: often providing structured limits is exactly what allows the creativity to flow.

She enjoys working with students to find the learning strategies that work best for them and believes that tutoring sessions should fall in the less stressful half of students’ days — it’s hard juggling school, life, and growing up! As a result, Maureen likes to use a bit of humor in her teaching, as she believes that the best thing one can do to start learning is to first feel comfortable.

Maureen specializes in executive function coaching, homework and study strategies, SAT Reading, US History, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature, critical writing, creative writing, and college essay writing.

When she is not working, Maureen enjoys going for meandering walks around the city, hanging out with her six siblings, music composition, and screenwriting.
