Meg S.

Meg received her B.S. in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention from the University of Southern California in 2015. Then, she obtained her M.A. in Teaching and became a licensed educator in the state of Illinois. In Meg’s most recent role at an education non-profit, she supported students to articulate their purpose and strengthen their advocacy skills.

As a teacher, tutor, coach, and clinician, she tailors teaching and learning to the unique needs of each student. As an executive functioning coach, she partners with students to create personalized tools and apply strategies to effectively organize, prioritize, self-direct, and self-monitor their acquisition of knowledge. Meg has experience working with students with a range of cognitive, communication, and emotional disabilities including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). As an educator, Meg worked with psychologists, learning specialists, therapists, and administrators to develop intervention plans and implement recommendations. She effectively collaborates with students to utilize their modifications and accommodations to optimize their learning experiences and navigate the school day more confidently.

Meg is also passionate about making difficult mathematical and scientific concepts accessible. In her undergraduate studies, Meg found the hard sciences challenging, but she remained committed to the demands of highly competitive coursework by engaging in research to situate the seemingly intangible academia in real-world contexts. Her research made her think differently about the creation of new knowledge and she found a love for discovering ideas, reasons, and possibilities. As a tutor, she makes learning relevant and facilitates an environment where students find joy in problem-solving and applying their learning in authentic contexts.

Additionally, Meg provided college preparation guidance to high school students including SAT and ACT tutoring and personal essay coaching. Implementing a test prep program, she equipped students with the mindsets and skills to improve their scores and as a result, access more selective universities with better financial aid. In these guidance sessions, she encouraged the self-reflection, articulation, and story-crafting that is needed for a compelling personal statement.

Currently, Meg is pursuing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The Wright Institute, in Berkeley, California. When she isn’t diving deeper into the intricacies of human development and sense-making, she can be found in the mountains or near the ocean enjoying swimming, hiking, and running.
