Hildy J.

Hildy earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology with a minor in chemistry and concentration in environment studies from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. She went on to work in a molecular genetics research laboratory then in software quality assurance for an electronic medical records company. In her various professional experiences, Hildy discovered a passion for making scientific ideas accessible for everyone, which ultimately led her to education. She received a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2017 and moved to La Guajira, Colombia to teach chemistry and biology in the International Baccalaureate program. After three years of learning, growing, and traveling in Colombia, Hildy moved to Lima, Peru for four years to continue teaching IB chemistry. Hildy currently lives in Madison, WI and teaches bilingual (English/Spanish) science at a local public high school.

Hildy enjoys working one on one with students and has tutored in various capacities since her own senior year of high school. Hildy’s approach is always highly student-centered and responsive to individual needs. Hildy is also interested in the science of learning, and particularly the role of metacognition in achieving enduring conceptual understandings in science. Reflection is therefore a key part of her teaching practice. Hildy is happy to tutor in various science subjects and introductory algebra as well as executive function coaching.

Outside of the classroom, Hildy enjoys traveling, running, yoga, and reading a great novel!
