Emma F.
Emma earned her B.A from Franklin & Marshall College with a degree in Public Health on the Biology Track and recently graduated from a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology program at Boston University. She chose the epidemiology field because she strongly believes that public health approaches can improve the well-being of communities and help everyone achieve their dreams. Emma has enhanced her passion for statistics, epidemiology, and the biological sciences through her work at research institutions, government agencies, and international non-profits.
Emma has over 7 years of experience working with children and young adults in several capacities. During college, Emma worked as a science camp counselor at an overnight camp in the Berkshires and as a STEM Program Director at the Boys & Girls Club of Warwick. As a science counselor at both camps, Emma taught five 50 min. periods a day to children aged seven to fifteen and designed multi-level introductory science projects. Her classroom often explored the science of fossils, the basics of botany, modeled yeast respiration and more. As someone who loves to tackle “real world” scientific applications, Emma has always had a passion for finding pertinent and interesting examples that can bring a subject to life. This approach helps students learn on multiple levels and truly integrate information. Emma also worked as a peer academic coach at Franklin & Marshall College. In this role, she worked with peers individually to promote productive study skills, semester planning strategies, writing capacity, and work-life balance for students with executive function disorders. More recently, Emma has tutored epidemiology and biostatistics at the graduate school level. Currently, Emma tutors a wide variety of topics such as writing, SAT prep, American history, biology, and statistics.
Emma takes pride in not only teaching the subject material but also fostering an inquisitive nature that asks “what next?” She has a passion for helping students organize their studies and understand how they learn best. When she is not working, Emma loves to cook, paint, and read a good book.
